The Lidl wines to pour when the cosy season kicks in
From slow dinners to evenings by the stove, Lidl’s autumn wine selection has a bottle for every kind of cosy

Whether it’s a bottle opened while something is slowly simmering in the kitchen, a glass poured alongside a cheese board or simply that final drink of the day under a blanket, Lidl’s new autumn wine selection brings together rich reds, elegant classics and a few fresher options for those not quite ready to say goodbye to summery white.
For when the evening deserves something a little bolder: Barolo
When the temperatures drop, richer reds come into their own. One bottle that particularly stands out is the Barolo 2021 (€9.99). Made from Nebbiolo in Piemonte, it has a spicy character, a dry palate and a long savoury finish. It scored 88 points from the Master of Wine and pairs especially well with truffle, porcini mushrooms, lamb or roast beef. At €9.99 throughout the season, it brings one of Italy’s best-known wine appellations to the autumn table at a remarkably accessible price.
For the first proper red-wine evening: Lalande de Pomerol
Dark fruit, plum and black raspberry give this Bordeaux an immediately autumnal character. Round and pleasantly full-bodied, the Lalande de Pomerol (€9.99) is an easy bottle to reach for when the evening calls for something smooth and comforting. With a Bampfield score of 87 points, there’s another reason to add it to the autumn rotation.
For the bottle you save for Friday night: Primitivo di Manduria
Rich aromas of ripe red fruit and sweet spice give the Primitivo di Manduria (€8.99) plenty of autumn appeal. It’s a classic Primitivo that brings together ripe Mediterranean fruit and generous concentration. With 87 points, it’s an easy bottle to open when Friday night calls for something richer, especially alongside grilled meat, a comforting pasta or aged cheese.
Still on team white?
Cosy season doesn’t have to mean red-only. The Pinot Grigio della Venezia Premium (€5.99) keeps things light and refreshing. With generous stone fruit, subtle tropical notes, and a salty finish. Scoring 89 points, it’s the highest-rated wine in this selection so far.
For something a little more aromatic, the organic Alsace Gewürztraminer (€6.99), which scores 87 Bampfield points, brings notes of lychee and rose petal. Light-bodied and off-dry, with a pleasant bitter edge on the finish. It’s made for flavour-packed dinners, from Thai or Vietnamese dishes to silky smoked trout.
Because the best autumn plans are often the ones that require very little planning: something warm for dinner, somewhere comfortable to sit and the right bottle already waiting to be opened.
